His Eminence Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples at the Vatican, has urged the lay faithful to intensify their evangelisation mission so that many more people would know God.

He said this in a homily during Mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra, where he said his first Mass as Pro-Nuncio 25-years ago, on setting foot in Ghana.

Cardinal Dias was the Pro-Nuncio from 1982-87.
The title of Pro-Nuncio has now been changed to Nuncio all over the World.
He encouraged parishioners of the Cathedral (to intensify) their evangelisation since the Holy Spirit is their Patron Saint.
He said it is the Holy Spirit who gives strength to announce the Good News.
Cardinal Dias was flanked at the Archbishop’s throne by Most Rev. George Kocherry, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana and Most Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckle, Archbishop of Accra.

Concelebrants included Most Rev. Dominic Kodwo Andoh, Archbishop Emeritus of Accra.
Others were Very Rev. Frs. Francis Adoboli, Vicar General of the Accra Archdiocese, John Louis, Cathedral Administrator, Gabriel Kumordzi, SVD, Provincial Superior as well as Provincial Superiors of Comboni; Spiritan, Salesian Fathers and many Religious.

Cardinal Dias was welcomed to the Cathedral by Archbishop Palmer-Buckle and was presented with a bouquet by Hellen Elisha, a member of the Young Ladies Sodality of Mary.
Cardinal Dias asked Ghanaians to pray for continued peace in the country. Intercessory prayers were said for the Holy Father, the Bishops and for Ghana.

Cardinal Dias, jointly with the Bishops, imparted Papal blessing on the congregation.
The massed Choir of the Cathedral and the Spiritual Vessels sang the Mass.
Refreshment was served after Mass under the pavilion where the faithful had the opportunity of meeting Cardinal Dias.

Before leaving Kumasi for Cape Coast enroute to Accra, Cardinal Dias called on Representatives of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He was met on behalf of the Asantehene by the Akyempemhene, Oheneba Adusei-Poku. Otumfuo Osei Tutu was said to be out of the country at the time of the visit.
