My dear youth, after the celebration of Ghana’s 50th anniversary, I am very sure you have come to cherish the beauty of your life as a human being. I am very sure your wish is to live to be fifty.
I know, your Daddies and Mummies, Grandpas and Grandmas who were born on or before 1957 might have told you a lot of our history.
For me, it has been a time to recollect what has happened to me as an individual and what has happened to my nation, Ghana.
I have recounted so many times my autobiography through the questions I have had to answer from my children and students.
I would have loved to show my children and students some souvenirs of 1957. Alas, there is none!
May I encourage all of you to buy a few of the items on sale and jealously keep them. For who?
My dear youth, how old are you now? Just add your present age to the next 50 years and you will come to realise and appreciate that many of you will be Daddies, Mummies, Grandpas and Grandmas in 2057.
May I wish you God’s Grace and Blessings so that you may live to see the next fifty years and tell your children or grandchildren what you witnessed on March 6, 2007.
You see, life is so very interesting. We can live to tell our story provided we take very good care of ourselves. Of course, majority of the Grandpas and Grandmas, Daddies and Mummies who witnessed the Ghana @ 50 will certainly leave this earth to their Maker in the next fifty years.
I hope you enjoyed the video clips of the fifties during the celebrations. Today life expectancy in Ghana is 56 years (men) and 57 (women).
Though this is an average, you need to count your blessings, be patriotic and guard the environment if you want to journey through the next fifty years.
My dear youth, many of us do not seem to count our blessings. You can count your blessings as you recognise the existence of God and worship him accordingly.
The Grace of God is always the source of our strength. We have to know God in our youth and get hooked to Him.
We have to resolve in the jubilee year to be more committed to our Church activities.
Remember that beautiful saying ‘I was Glad when they said unto me let us go to the house of the Lord.’
We are taught the best of everything in the house of God. Once we live good moral lives, we can grow into the ripe age of seventy and still be strong to see our children’s children.
Again, we can count our blessings as we recognise the role of our Mummies and Daddies in our lives and do not in any way give them pains.
My dear youth, you can be a source of pain to Mummy or Daddy if you decide to spend your days smoking, drinking and loitering. Mummy or Daddy would not weep for the pain you give him or her, rather, she should weep for the joy you bring to the home.
You can be a source of ill-health to Daddy or Mummy when he/she has to weep for days and nights because you have failed them in life by your deviant behaviour.
When they die early in your life, you can miss the good things they have to offer you.
Good education with upright living, gives you the best of life. So then, remain focused and you can be sure to see the next jubilee.
