NCS gets Assistant Secretary General

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has appointed Rev. Fr. Nicholas Afriyie as Assistant Secretary General of the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) with immediate effect.

The letter of appointment of Fr. Afriyie was signed by Most Rev. Lucas Abadamloora, President of GCBC and Bishop of Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese.

Until his appointment, Fr. Afriyie was the Parish Priest of the St. Joseph’s Parish at Bechem in the Sunyani Diocese.
Apart from assisting the Secretary-General of NCS in ensuring the decisions and policies of the GCBC are effectively and efficiently carried out, the duties of Fr. Afriyie will include the facilitation of contact between the NCS and Government Official's and Parliamentarians as well as oversight responsibility of the Finance Unit and the Archives and Documentation section of NCS.

Fr. Afriyie had his Elementary Education at R/C Primary and R/C Middle Schools, both at Duayaw Nkwanta and continued to St. James Seminary at Sunyani from 1986-1988.

From 1989-1992, Fr. Afriyie had his Major Seminary formation at St. Paul’s Seminary in Accra after which he went to St. Peter’s Major Seminary in Cape Coast.

He was ordained a Priest on July 20, 1996 at Nkoranza.

In order to enrich his priestly vocation, Fr. Afriyie entered the Pontificia Universita Urbaniana in Rome in 2001 and graduated with a Licentiate in Canon Law and a Diploma in Ecclesiastical Jurisprudence.

Fr. Afriyie currently works for the Provincial Ecclesiastical Tribunal in Kumasi.
