The Handmaids Preparatory School (HPS) of Nsoatre in the Sunyani Diocese, recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The Vicar General of the Diocese, Very Rev. Msgr. George Kwame Kumi, on behalf of Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani, blessed the foundation stone, marking the school’s 10th year, while the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, commissioned the stone.
Rev. Sister Mary Perpetua Osei-Wusu, School Co-Foundress and Headmistress, said that the establishment of the School, owned and run by the Congregation of the Handmaids of Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ) was to “feed the Sacred Heart Secondary School (SHESS),” also run by the HHCJ, “with well-qualified candidates.”
Sr. Perpetua thanked the staff, parents, the HHCJ Community, and donors, specifically Manos Unidas of Spain, for the construction of the building.
The School, which started with 52 pupils, now has 340 students, and the first batch of Students who took the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) came out with good grades ranging from Aggregates Six to 10.
Msgr. Kumi, enjoined them to remember three things in their studies, namely, discipline, hard work, and humility.
Present were Rev. Fr. John Effah Awiti, School Chaplain, and Rev. Fr. Paul Osei-Fosu, Parish Priest of Nsoatre, Rev. Sr. Germaine Ocansey, HHCJ Provincial Superior, other HHCJ Sisters and parents.
