More than 700 members of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall from the Greater Accra Region celebrated Sir James Marshall Day at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Rectorate at Dansoman Last Stop in Accra.
The celebration marked the month and year the Constitution of the Noble Order was signed by Bishop Ernest Hauger on May 1, 1929, three years after the Society had held its first meeting in Sekondi.
Rev. Fr. Samuel Filton Mensah, Priest-In-Charge, officiated at the Mass. In attendance were Rev. Wisdom Laweh, a Deacon, currently attached to the Rectorate, Rev. Bro. Pius Agyemang, SVD and Rev. Bro. Stephen Domelevo, SVD.
The celebration was on the theme: Marshallans as Disciples of Christ.
In a homily, Fr. Filton Mensah called on Marshallans to lead the evangelisation of love in order to transform the nation.
He stressed that there was no greater love than to die for a neighbour as Christ did. This should inspire members to show love not only to their members but also to the needy.
He praised the leadership of the Noble Order for contributing 800 Euros to support Madam Margaret Harvey Ewusi, a member of the Rectorate and Court 63 of the Ladies of Marshall when she fell sick.
At the Mass, Dr. Andre Kwasi Kumah, Grand Knight of Council 71 and Mrs. Ivy Austin, Noble Lady of Court 63, inaugurated the Our Lady Star of the Sea branch of the Marshallan Association with Mr. John Kingsley Essel, Deputy Central Regional Grand Knight, as Chairman, Mr. John Slippy Mensah as Vice Chairman, Mr.Anthony Frimpong, Secretary and Mr. Vincent Mensah as Advisor.
Introducing the Association’s gift to the SOS Community, Mr. Vincent Mensah said, it was to mark the formal inauguration of the Association and the seventh birthday of Council 71 and Court 63 and invited members who worship at SOS to join the Association
Ms. Hannah Quarmyn, Chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council welcomed the Marshallans and briefed them on the progress made by the Church and announced that the 20th anniversary of the Church was to be climaxed in August this year.
Mr. George Musey, an Elder of the Church, highlighted the achievement of the Church to date and pleaded with the Marshallans to support the anniversary programme.
Mr. Tony N.N. Baffour, Regional Grand Knight and Mrs. Dora Kyei, Regional Noble Lady, said nothing should stop Marshallans from bearing fruit and making more disciples for Christ whether in pain or in joy.
He said as “Marshallans and Catholics in Ghana, we are the direct beneficiaries of the vision and effort of Sir James Marshall through whom we have millions of Catholics in Ghana, thousands of educational institutions, hundreds of health facilities, and unaccountable spiritual and secular ventures.”
Receiving ¢10 million donated by the Noble Order, Ms. Quarmyn saw the donation as the seed money for the 20th Anniversary Planning Committee.
Fr. Filton Mensah thanked the Marshallans for their generosity.
