Bishop Gyamfi cuts sod for Polyclinic

Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani, has cut the sod for a new Polyclinic in Dormaa District to be built on a 51-acre land at Ampenkro.

The St. Matthew Polyclinic will provide quality health care for the people of the district.
Bishop Gyamfi, in his keynote address, said: “We, Priests, go to the villages to preach the love of God to the people. But we know that it is hard for people to know and understand God’s love for them if they are hungry and sick.”
He said that the Diocese of Sunyani since its creation, had embarked on various social development projects to address the basic social needs of the people.

These projects include schools, hospitals, and clinics and through them, “the Diocese tries to make the people see and feel that God truly loves and cares for them,” he added.
The planned Polyclinic, to be developed into a hospital later, is another manifestation of God’s love and care through the generous assistance of donors, Bishop Gyamfi said.

He reminded Ghanaians to take care of their health and their environment and properly dispose of empty tins, breeding places of mosquitoes, and plant more trees that cool the hot weather that adversely affects the people’s health.
He commended the Polyclinic's main sponsor, The Giving to Ghana Foundation, Incorporated, based in New York, USA, for their generosity and care for the people of Ghana, specifically of Sunyani Diocese.
Some members of the Board of the Foundation, Lawyer Dennis Lynch, Terence Lynch, and Dr. John Ferrick, flew in from New York for the sod-cutting ceremony.

Lawyer Lynch, quoting St. Matthew said “I assure you, as often as you did it for one of my least brothers, you did it for me.”
“Your people (Priests from the Diocese) come to America to give us spiritual help. It is only right that we, in America, give our material help in return.”
The Polyclinic which we are helping to build is a concrete example of “Love in action.” The Foundation was established primarily to assist the Diocese in its various social development projects, he said.
The community pledged to provide communal labour for the construction of the Polyclinic.

Present were the Diocesan Curia members, the Vicar General, Rev. Msgr. George Kwame Kumi; Chancellor, Very Rev Fr. Andrew Amankwaa, and Financial Administrator, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Dery; Sr. Wilhelmina Mensah, OLA, Diocesan Health Service Director, Rev. Fr. Andrew Takyia, Wamanafo Parish Priest, Fr. Robert Kwarteng, Wamfie Parish Priest and Rev. Fr. John Takyi, Diocesan Commentator.

Also present were District Health Directors, District Chief Executives and Chiefs of the area.
